The short answer
A chef at home suits a party where you want food cooked in your kitchen and can arrange ingredients and utensils. For catering or delivery, confirm the provider’s preparation and service arrangements separately.
The first difference is where food is prepared
When you book a chef at home through Look My Cook, the selected dishes are cooked in your own kitchen. This is a cooking service, not a delivery of prepared food. Your home becomes the preparation space, which makes the menu and your available equipment important parts of the plan.
Catering arrangements vary: a provider may deliver prepared food, cook at the venue or offer a combination. Ordering in usually means choosing finished dishes from a restaurant or delivery menu. Ask each provider about their actual setup rather than assuming every caterer or home-chef service works the same way.
Match the service to your home and your party
A chef-at-home service is worth considering when you want to choose a menu for a family dinner, birthday or house party and have a usable kitchen. Before booking, think about working space, hob availability, cookware and refrigeration for ingredients. If the kitchen is small or already busy, discuss those constraints before finalising ambitious dishes.
If you cannot provide ingredients or cooking equipment, compare alternatives that explicitly include them. If your priority is receiving a ready-to-serve meal with minimal kitchen use, ask a delivery or catering provider about serving arrangements and timing. These are practical trade-offs, not proof that one option is universally better.
- Is there space for cooking and preparation?
- Who supplies ingredients and cookware?
- Who serves the food and clears dishes?
- What needs to happen before guests arrive?
Compare complete budgets, not starting prices
For Look My Cook, standard-date pricing is ₹99 per guest plus ₹149 per dish, with a ₹1,999 minimum chef quote. Event-date rates can differ. You arrange ingredients and utensils separately, and optional staff upgrades are separate from the chef service.
For any catering or delivery quote, ask whether ingredients, transport, serving equipment, staffing and cleanup are included. Provider arrangements differ, so request a written breakdown rather than assuming their headline amount is comparable to a cooking-only quote.
Look My Cook takes 50% advance to book, with the remaining amount paid to the chef after service. Use the selected-date booking summary to check your actual amount. There is no reliable universal saving percentage when menus, guest counts and inclusions are different.
A simple decision checklist
Choose according to the work you can comfortably arrange as a host. For a chef at home, that includes shopping from the final ingredient list and providing a kitchen and utensils. The chef wipes the kitchen slab, but full post-party cleaning is not part of the chef service.
Before committing to any option, write down the guest count, menu, serving time, total budget and who handles each task. The right choice is the one whose responsibilities and quote fit your particular party—not the one with the most impressive headline.
- Confirm what is included and excluded.
- Check your guest count and selected dishes.
- Agree on serving arrangements.
- Review payment terms before paying.
